When we bought a car eight years ago,
we had the option of a navigation system
(GPS) in dash or a CD player in dash.
If we chose the GPS, the CDs went in the
trunk! We went with the CD player in dash;
after all, we reasoned, we always used
maps before so why did we need navigation
now?
Flash forward five years: Our next car
came with a navigation system and a CD
player in dash. Suddenly, the GPS was
indispensable. New restaurant in SF? Covered.
Not sure how to get home from a dark street
in Portola Valley? No problem. Need to
stop to ask for directions? Never again!
Conscious Bookkeeping has been like that.
My husband is in finance already so why
would we need help with our finances?
We already dutifully worked on the dreaded
budget.
However, now that we have been doing
Conscious Bookkeeping, it has become indispensable.
We have both learned about our unconscious
baggage when talking about the budget
(which we no longer call "The Budget").
I've learned to use and appreciate Quicken
and my husband has learned to translate
his numbers so I can understand them.
Sessions where we talk about finances
are no longer the procrastinated guilt
filled hour we both can't wait to escape.
We've learned that money is simply energy
and focus, and how we spend it is how
we spend our life. The vision of our destination
is now clear, so our choices to get there
are clear. Our Cherished dreams –
my childhood National Velvet fantasy of
horse ownership; a family trip to Hawaii
paid with cash; owning our home, remodeling
our home, golf outings – have all
become reality. Conscious Bookkeeping
has brought a sense of peace and prosperity
to our lives.
Oh, and the name of our budget? We now
call it our GPS."

I just wanted to send you another note
of thanks. I completed your Level 1 course
about two years ago and I cannot believe
the difference it continues to make.
My husband and I did our taxes in 30
minutes with a bookkeeper last night.
Because we are fully automated on Quicken
and our filing systems are straight, we
had no stress around filing at all.
You may not remember this, but Arthur
and I had several years in a row where
we were being audited, but we haven't
been in years. Since we started using
Quicken, we can easily see Laura at HR
Block and she loves doing our work because

on the radio with the guy who has the
Green Bank in San Francisco. It was really
wonderful. You reminded me of how wonderful
my life is because my husband and I aren't
basing our life on uncertainty. We don't
ever argue about money, and we don't fear
the future. We are clear we can create
what we need, and we can forecast our
breakdowns with accuracy.
I am so grateful that I attended your
class and I cannot thank you enough for
the blessing you are in my life and the
world. I wish that all your dreams come
true. Separately, I wish that my dream
come true: that what you have taught me
touches every other human being on Earth.

My husband and I took Conscious Bookkeeping's
Level I course last winter for help setting
up Quickbooks for his business and to
get our household finances in order. We'd
been struggling with a LOT of debt from
an SF mortgage, a remodel gone out awry,
and from just a lack of thoughtfulness
about our spending. Almost every credit
card was maxed out and the credit card
companies were starting to raise our interest
rates. I called Consumer Credit Counseling
Services but they said my current interest
rates were better than the rates they
could negotiate for us and advised us
to toughen up, start budgeting and slowly
pay it all off over 3 or 4 years. Since
taking the course, we fully transitioned
the business accounting to Quickbooks
and, after seeing a couple of monthly
profit and loss reports, revised his estimating
formula to take all of the business' expenses
into account. We also put our household
on a budget. Since doing that, we've been
able to pay down over $20,000 in credit
card debt (over 30%) while starting an
emergency savings fund and fully funding
our retirement plans. This has been a
great year. On an extra good note, we're
expecting our first baby early next year
and are feeling like we're in great shape
financially for this new phase of our
lives.

Dear Bari,
My partner and I have had three meetings
with Joetta. I can't remember
how we found out about Conscious Bookkeeping,
but I think it was from
Bay Area Business Women newspaper. I
know it was something like that,
anyway, because I had been looking at
ads and talking to different
people about some financial advice.
I just wanted to let you know that
we are so impressed by Joetta. We
had hoped to see her no more than twice,

i've been working on business and personal
bookkeeping, etc. today and took a pause
just a moment ago and thought of you.
i just wanted to extend my appreciation
to you. honestly, i've never been so
organized in my life. there simply aren't
as many cloudy areas these days and
i'm able to approach the money matters
in my life with so much more fluidity.
i can't tell you what a relief it is
and how empowered i'm just beginning
to feel since beginning my work with
you and CB.
the past month and a half have been
very challenging in that i've been confronted
with so much of my past habits. it's
also been challenging because in order
to change these habits i've had to devote
a great amount of extra time and energy
to this process. it's taken a lot of
self-discipline. i've been diligently
working on redoing my 2006 tax stuff
with personal and business as well as
working out a plan with the irs to make
consistent payments on past back taxes
i've owed. it's really been hard because
in the past, i just kept putting it
off and that procrastination constantly
weighed on me both physically and emotionally
(i now realize). now that i'm working
on it with open eyes i have so many
different feelings that come up -- frustration
with my old self, appreciation of myself
for the new effort, sometimes wanting
to give up because it feels hard, empowerment,
etc.
i feel really close to being caught
up to the present, if that makes sense.
the past month or two have been about
cleaning up the past, getting systems
in place and creating systems for the
present and future. it's taken a lot
of time, effort, belief that it's possible
and perseverance. my goal and vision
is that by mid september, i will be
completely done with having to deal
with past blockage and from there be
able to focus solely on current bookkeeping
and future visioning. i can see the
light at the end of this tunnel :)

In our individual sessions she compassionately worked with my mental limitations until I began to soothe the emotional wounds from my past. The Conscious Bookkeeping workshop was very beneficial. Bari’s example and her own story was a good role model that one can change one’s attitude about bookkeeping being boring. I really loved what was said about being in the body and being grounded when working with numbers and the pristine clarity of that activity. Also, the idea of pulling back the veil with curiosity to discover what’s really real- all very beautiful and advanced spirituality as applied to bookkeeping- really original and very helpful. I also appreciated Bari sharing her actual reports of her financial records. That was a powerful counter balance to the secrecy aspect of things, plus really helped ground the concepts in reality.
